Orthopedic
Physical Therapy
Comprehensive, private, one-on-one care for musculoskeletal pain, injury, and post-surgical rehab — addressing every joint and region of the body from head to toe. Every plan is built around your specific goals and examination findings.
What It Is
Orthopedic physical therapy is the foundation of care at Achieve PT. It addresses pain, stiffness, weakness, and movement limitations affecting the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves of the body — from head to toe.
Every orthopedic evaluation begins with a thorough assessment of movement, strength, joint mobility, and symptom behaviour. From there, Dr. Julie Roy builds a personalized plan that combines hands-on treatment, targeted exercise, and education — always with your specific goals in mind.
Care is private and one-on-one at every visit. There are no aides, assistants, or group exercise classes — you work directly with Dr. Roy for the full session.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Illinois is a direct access state, meaning you can see a physical therapist without a physician referral. We recommend notifying your primary care provider or specialist that you are starting physical therapy. We can keep your medical team informed with initial evaluation notes and progress updates.
In many cases, yes. Research strongly supports physical therapy as a first-line treatment for conditions including rotator cuff tears, meniscus injuries, knee osteoarthritis, lumbar spinal stenosis, and hip osteoarthritis. Many people who are told they need surgery see significant improvement with a course of well-structured physical therapy.
The number of visits depends on your diagnosis, its severity and duration, your goals, and how your body responds to treatment. Most orthopedic conditions benefit from one to two visits per week for several weeks. We discuss realistic timelines and milestones after your evaluation and adjust as you progress.
Some temporary discomfort during treatment or with new exercises is normal — tissues need to be loaded and challenged to heal and strengthen. However, treatment should never significantly increase your baseline pain. We adjust intensity based on your tolerance and communicate throughout every session.
Wear comfortable, athletic-style clothing that allows you to move freely and that provides access to the area being treated. Shorts, tanks, and loose-fitting clothing work well. Our clinic is located inside Tensile Strength Studio in Barrington, IL.
Recovery timelines vary significantly depending on the condition, its severity, how long it has been present, and individual factors including age, activity level, sleep, and stress. Many people notice meaningful improvement within a few weeks of consistent rehabilitation.
